If you have a loved one that needs to be in a nursing home, the Berks Heim is an excellent choice. My stepfather Harry went to the Heim, when we could no longer give him the care he needed and deserved. Harry was in rehab at first and then was moved to skilled nursing. He told us that he couldn’t complain about any of the staff, they were friendly, caring and pleasant, he liked them all! As family we observed the same when visiting, the staff seem to truly enjoy their work and the patients in their care.
This community can accommodate special diets, such as low-salt, low-sugar, and others, for residents who require them. My husband was sent to Berks Heim from the hospital. The food is absolutely terrible, he received a bowl of mush, and dried toast for breakfast. Some of the staff members were good, but some were not.

I prefer giving positive feedback, but people deserve the truth. The place is kept fairly clean, & there are a few excellent staff members, but the majority are disgruntled & rude. Due to Covid, communication was key when we couldn’t tour or visit, but communication was the worst factor & never improved-only got brief phone check-ins about every other month. We never knew what to expect or what was truly happening until we could finally visit. The Case manager left, & we had to call months later to even find out the name of the new one.

The food isn't more to my liking though, but the place is just very clean and very well supervised. I've seen many nursing homes, and if you need that type of help, I would say Berks Heim is one of the places you should go. I had a meeting the second day that he was in there already, and that was with all those three rehab people for him, as well as the dietician, the social worker, and the financial manager. Outside his window, there's a nice little garden outback. The nurses are on duty when I go in, and you can only go in for half an hour. I go over dinnertime, so everybody's usually busy at that time helping residents and what have you.
